Missions Dinner

September 10 we will be hosting a date night dinner at Mill Creek Baptist Church.

This event will help us share what has been going on at the
Bethlehem Farm in Nicaragua.

Back in Nicaragua Rigo has been busy with a couple of
groups coming over to help build buildings for the farm.

This dinner is to help with our support with the mission in Nicaragua.

In November, we will be returning to Nicaragua for 10 days.  Our goal

on this trip is to submerge ourselves in the Spanish language.
We want to be able to communicate with the people in their
language.

In July we sent Rigo home with corn seeds to plant.
His request to us was to come in November and help harvest the corn.

We are planning on teaching the people how to preserve the harvest.

How are we going to do this?  

We will bring lots of canning jars.

Plus a pressure canner.

  The people in Nicaragua have never eaten fresh corn.
So, this will be a new experience for them.  They also
do not know how to preserve the food.  With no refrigeration
canning the food will be a great skill for them to learn.

Jackson Baptist Church Missions Dinner

Our visit to our church in New Jersey was a great experience for

  us and the congregation. 

We were able to share how the seed

has sprouted from an idea to an action of love.

Sharing our love for the people of Nicaragua 

and how we plan to help them.

  

We want to do the same thing,

plant a seed and watch it grow.

Having faith in the power of Jesus 

is the first step.

John 15:4-8

Remain in me , and I will remain in 

you..

  No branch can bear fruit by itself,

it must remain in the vine. Neither can 

you bear fruit unless you remain in me.
I am the vine; you are the branches.  If
a man remains in me and I in him, he will
bear much fruit; apart from me you can do
nothing .  If anyone does not remain in me
he is like a branch that is thrown away and
withers;  such branches are picked up and
thrown into the fire and burned.  If you

ask whatever you wish, and it will be

10 Year Anniversary

Rigo has spent the last ten years as a missionary

in Nicaragua.

The Lord has used him in a mighty

way.  He has been able to teach other young men

to become pastors.

 
Also, he started a school

teaching carpentry in Chinandega.where boys can 

learn a trade.

The work he has done for the last 

three years in the Bonete village has also been a 

challenge.  As this originally started with 80 families

and went down to 20 families.  Due to this 

government owned property.

  This year they had a celebration of his missionary 

work in Nicaragua.

Many people came from far 

lands such as the United States to join in this celebration.

Changing Hearts

God showed up and blessed us with such an amazing event.

Rigo spoke to our congregation Sunday night

and touched many peoples lives by sharing his life-changing experiences in Nicaragua.

country in the world?

Missions Dinner

When you are serving the Lord He will make a pathway for you.

We are so blessed to be part of this agricultural mission project.

Mike and I are looking forward to presenting

the Farm Vision for Nicaragua at the 

a Missions Dinner

at 

Mill Creek Baptist Church,

Bardstown, KY

July 10, 2011.

We will also be introducing our missionary partner,

Rigoberto Reyes from Managua, Nicaragua.

This is a very exciting time as God has chosen
us to share His love for the Nicaraguan people. 

Matthew 25:35

For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat,

I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, 

I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed

clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you 

looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.

Bonete

Our local missionary, Rigoberto Reyes, picked us up Thursday morning to take us to Chinandega where we stayed prior to going to the farm.  Bonete is about 2-3 hours north of Managua.

While on our way to Chinandega, Rigo shared with us the challenges of a farming operation. Proper irrigation is the first step to a successful farming operation. If they have the proper irrigation more crops could be grown throughout the year resulting in additional economic benefits.

As we traveled, Rigo also revealed that he was signing the papers to purchase the 63 acres for the farm!  Watch the video below of the well on the new farm….

Friday we drove to the Bonete community where we learned some very sad news.  The community of 80 families are being evicted the land they were living on for 8 years. 20 of them were selected by the government to be put in a new settlement and have already left.  8 families will go to the new farm project.  The rest of them have no place to go and have to be moved out this week.

Below is a picture of the settlement and their outdoor church and the road leading away from the Bonete community.

We prayed and worshiped with the people in the community.  In Spanish, they spoke of their pain of being removed from a place they’ve known as home for 8 years.  We listened, but could not comprehend until it was explained to us right before we left.

As we left the settlement a woman waved and yelled in spanish "Don’t forget us!!".  This woman is a widow, and has no other family other than her church family.  At that point Rigo asked “Are you hungry?”.  I said yes but my stomach churned at the thought of eating.

I don’t think we’ll ever forget her and those families.  Please pray for them to find a home.

Our first morning in Managua

Mark 26-29 And He said, “The kingdom of God is as if a man should scatter seed on the ground, 27 and should sleep by night and rise by day, and the seed should sprout and grow, he himself does not know how. 28 For the earth yields crops by itself: first the blade, then the head, after that the full grain in the head. 29 But when the grain ripens, immediately he puts in the sickle, because the harvest has come.”

As we read this devotional I thought of my family's growth in the Lord. If you told us two years ago that we were going to go on a mission to spread the Gospel I would have said "no way".

It’s amazing how God changes hearts.

We were able to share this revelation to a woman who relocated from the US to Nicaragua whom we met at breakfast. We also discussed how Nicaragua’s tourism is growing and how Christianity is making an impact through missions.

She was not a believer, so please pray for her salvation. Her name is Jeanne.

As we ate breakfast and talked, Rachel almost got hit in the head by a nice ripe mango dropping from the tree that we we're sitting under!  Time to get going….or….¡Vámonos!
