Agriculture on the Missions Field

Carlos is our new Pastor at the farm

In Nicaragua on the farm we are moving forward with a 

new agriculturist. 

In 2014 the farm staff planted these in the front of 

Bethlehem Farm it was amazing to see when I arrived.

Even though we were in a drought they still grew.  When 

you are waiting sometimes you just can't see how things are

going to work out.

At that time we were praying for God to send us a new 

agriculturist.  Here we are in 2016 and someone came to us

that Pastor Rigoberto discipled many years ago.  Unknown to us God

was working, we just needed to be patient.

When I was in Nicaragua in September Pastor Rigoberto

 brought me to meet Carlos.

I gave him seeds not knowing what he would do with them.

So when I arrived in November this what he showed me.

They are actually zinnia flower seedlings.

 

I was amazed and excited! 

When my family joined the mission as a volunteer back in 2011

we took a big leap of faith, not sure what was going to happen.

 Having always been a grower of plants,  I wanted to share

it with people who had nothing.  One of my desires was to teach 

people how to grow food they did not have today, but they could 

have tomorrow. They just have to be willing to try!

The Lord will share his burdens we need to be ready to act.

Meeting New People

In 2011 a Kentucky University started something call Mission Farm where college students get 

hands on learning in agriculture. 

Due to it still being a little early to do any agriculture we had a guest speaker.

Two young american men from this area were serving in Uganda, Africa. 

 It was a great time

to hear about their experiences on the field

We ended our night having a authentic African dinner with fellowship.

Short-Term Missions Trips

This was a trip we took from a church in New Jersey three years ago what a amazing blessing it was.
In the video you are seeing boys that lived on the street or were from broken homes.  Most of them
have maybe a 5th grade and under education.  Some may not know how to read or write.  They are invited to come live at the farm for 6 months to learn a trade and to learn about Jesus. The farm is to teach trades to people living in extreme poverty.  We typically do 3 Vacation Bible Schools while we are in Nicaragua which shares the love of Jesus with children who have not heard HIS name.

In July of 2016 we are planning for a construction team to the Bethlehem Farm.
We are seeking candidates to share in the harvest that God is doing there.

Education

Back in March we had an opportunity to meet a woman named Jane at Pastor Rigoberto's house.

Jane heads up a non profit who runs Mobile Libraries in Nicaragua.

She runs her non profit out of San Jun Del Sur.

  Mike and I sat with her as she shared what her work is doing for the children who have

no educational opportunities.

We had just experienced meeting children in families

with no hope while handing food out to these needy families.

Of course my brain started spinning with an opportunity for us

to bring education where no education existed.

During my time of waiting for this trip I would like to take

children's Bibles with me. 

 I want to educate children mostly in Gods Word.

Cross Culture Training

The summer months is a time spent in America.
While my heart is in prayer about the Nicaragua people,
part of my job is here in the states.

While I live in the United States most of the time I am an 

Advocate working as a voice for the poor in Nicaragua.

Of course one of my main projects is studying Spanish.

 Studying a language will help me work directly with the people

when I am working in Nicaragua.

One of the great things I found was online tutors.
If you ever wanted to learn a new language this is a great tool.

One of the great things about this online classes is I have only picked
teachers that are from Nicaragua.  So I get cross culture training from the
teachers that I am meeting with.
I have tried many different styles to help me learn to speak in Spanish.

The greatest is speaking the language at least 3 times a week.

Happenings In May

May 

 In May I was able to take a quick trip to Nicaragua with a new friend from Oregon.
This was such a delight and there were things that I got to experience that I would like to
share with you.

Theresa and I traveled to Chinandega where we met
up with Pastor Rigoberto and Claudia Reyes.
It would be a day filled with much excitement as we
were going to meet with some people I had met in March.

There was a little girl the Lord placed on my heart.
Let me introduce you to Jessica.

We were going to meet her and the family.
Jessica was going to get her chance to go to
school.
Thank GOD, HE had went ahead of me and placed
HIS desires in hearts of people who would fund
 this project.

This is the food we went and bought for this family.
This will feed this family of 5 for a month.

Plus, we had some sponsors that bought 3 uniforms
for three girls to go to school.  The hope is that God
will use Jessica for HIS glory in the years to come.

          

     

The second day we were giving the opportunity to meet with another group
of families living along the highway.

What an amazing couple of days we had.

What a privilege it is to serve in Nicaragua!
